how god guides you in decision making

“A critical decade exists between 16-26 where most of the decisions that will shape the next 50 years of your life will be made: including the choice of an occupation, the decision to marry, and the establishment of values and principles by which life is governed what makes this period of even more significance is the impact of early mistakes and errors in judgment.  They can undermine all that is to follow.” – James Dobson

I hope this does not add to much pressure, but it is important to remember that in the next 5-6 years the choices you make will be significant in setting the course for the rest of your life.

If you have not done so in a while, it seems that this would be a time to again reflect on and confirm God’s direction for your life.  I know that this can be hard sometimes when there seems to be so many decisions to choose from and such a major life transition is taking place.

Remember that God speaks to us in 4 primary ways:

1) Through His Word – The Holy Spirit will bring a passage to life that need to be applied in your life or that might help you set a direction or make a next step.

2) Through the Holy Spirit – God’ still small voice that speaks to your heart.
Sometimes peace comes that a certain direction is right.  Sometimes the peace does not come until you actually commit by faith to a direction that you feel God is leading you and then He brings the peace after you commit.

3) Through Circumstances – Look for God ordained circumstances that might be coming together to confirm what He is saying to you.  Are there 3-4 things you can point to that act as confirmation to the direction He is leading?   When ships navigate into a port they look for 3 or 4 beacons of light to line up in a straight line.  This lets the captain know he is proceeding on the right direction.

4) Through the Church or Fellowship – Is there a sense that God is speaking through your community of friends or a campus leader or pastor?  You would personally have to have some confidence that God was speaking to you personally in some of the ways of #1 and #2, but the confirmation of a pastor, friend or leader can really boost your confidence that you are headed in the best direction.
