Here are some thoughts on a budget for a young professional. Using a base starting salary of $32,000, I have listed some guideline percentages that you should plan on for various areas. The tithe and savings are two big things to consider right from the start. Getting a car, apartment and paying off any college debt is really important too.
Sharing an apartment with roommates will lower housing costs. Buying a stereo, CDs, all the stuff you really wanted will raise the miscellaneous costs. The best thing is to get started at work, begin paying for the things you need and then check yourself against this budget in 6 months. Then set a budget for yourself based on your salary.
Lastly, NEVER, NEVER, carry long-term debt on your credit card. You may have to float some expenses for a month or two, but pay it off. The best policy is to pay off a credit card every month. I cannot tell you how many people I know get SLAMMED by credit card debt. Use a credit card wisely.
